Are we mad? Yes, no doubt that at our age this is a real challenge - and we're only attempting to do a small part of the trail on our first foray - Cape Reinga to Auckland. But it's exciting, at last the weather is looking a little more settled, piles of stuff are slowly disappearing from the floor into the backpacks, last minute purchases and repairs are complete. Now we just have to hope that Rob's back stops hurting and my feet recover from the training walks we went on.
We've sent a food parcel to Ahipara - hey, we're trying to make this easy on ourselves - and we're going to leave another food parcel at Paihia on our way north. We have our tickets booked for the Intercity bus to Paihia, and for the AwesomeNZ/Fullers bus from Paihia to Cape Reinga.
Nothing left to do but final packing and loading the car which we will leave in Auckland - thank you Tom and Heather. So off we go, 3rd October 2010.
